Program Description
While not establishing a program, the 2002 Farm Bill contains the policy statement that institutions participating in the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs are encouraged to purchase local foods where practicable

Using the Program
Local school administrators, school food service staff, and local and state agencies can refer to this policy in their efforts to promote farm-to-cafeteria projects and change procurement practices to source farm products in their localities or regions.
